Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 April 2026
Excuse Me ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. It applies to the Excuse Me mobile app and related services.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Excuse inputs. When you generate an excuse, we send the scenario details you enter (situation, persona, sliders, free text) to our AI provider to generate a response. We do not store the content of your excuse generations on our servers.
- Onboarding preferences. Your name and escape category preferences entered during onboarding are stored locally on your device only.
- Account information. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a user identifier. If you use Guest mode, no account is created.
- Subscription information. If you subscribe to Excuse Me Pro, payment is processed by Apple. We receive subscription status via RevenueCat but do not receive your payment card details.
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to collect anonymised usage data such as which screens are viewed, which features are used, and how often. This data does not include the content of your excuses.
- Device information. Standard device identifiers, operating system version, and app version for diagnostic and crash-reporting purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To generate excuses and responses based on your input
- To personalise your in-app experience based on onboarding preferences
- To manage your subscription and Pro features
- To improve the app, fix bugs, and understand how features are used
- To comply with legal obligations
3. Third-Party Services
We work with the following services to provide the app:
- Anthropic. Excuse generation is powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. Scenario inputs are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this processing.
- Apple. Sign in with Apple and App Store payment processing are handled by Apple.
- Google. If you use Sign in with Google, Google's privacy policy applies to that authentication.

4. Data Storage and Retention
Your onboarding preferences, saved excuses (Pro users), and local history are stored on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not store excuse generation content on our servers. Anonymised analytics data is retained for as long as needed to understand product usage trends.
You can delete your locally-stored data at any time by deleting the app.
